The situation
A parent sought advice after a separation, concerned about custody and access arrangements for a school-age child. The other parent was resistant to communication and had indicated they would contest any proposed arrangement.
What we did
After the initial consultation and document review, we drafted a proposed access arrangement and requested mediation through the Malaysian Mediation Centre. Over two mediation sessions, a detailed parenting plan was negotiated and agreed — covering weekdays, weekends, school holidays, and communication arrangements.
The outcome
A legally recognised custody and access agreement was concluded in approximately eleven weeks, without court proceedings. Both parties — and the child — avoided the stress and disruption of a contested court process. The arrangement has been in operation for over a year without revision.
