Siti Noraini

Kuala Lumpur

I came in not knowing what jurisdiction applied to my situation — whether it fell under civil or Syariah law. Aishah took the time to explain both frameworks clearly, without making me feel rushed. The written summary I received was something I read several times over the following week. That document helped me make my decision.

Tze Wei handled the access arrangement for my daughter with patience I did not expect from a legal process. There was no adversarial posturing — the goal was always to reach something workable for everyone, including my daughter. We reached an agreement without ever going to court, which I was told might take over a year. It took three months.

I was not sure whether I even needed a lawyer or just someone to talk things through with. The consultation answered that question. Razif explained what the Syariah process would involve, gave me a realistic picture of the timeline, and was honest about the parts that would be difficult. I left with a much clearer head.

We have been on the long-term counsel arrangement for about eight months. Our situation involves two countries and a blended family, so having someone who understands the full picture — and who we do not have to re-explain things to every time — has been valuable in a way that is hard to quantify. The annual fee is reasonable given what we get.

What I appreciated most was that nobody pushed me toward any particular course of action. I had already spoken to another firm before this, and I felt like they had an answer ready before I had finished explaining my situation. Harmoni Legal was different — there was a lot of listening, and the advice felt considered rather than rehearsed.

I came in expecting a standard legal appointment — an hour of advice and a bill. The written summary I received two days later was genuinely useful. It laid out three options, their implications, and a rough cost and timeline for each. I shared it with my sister before making any decision. That kind of documentation is not something I have encountered before in a legal context.

Client Journeys

How some matters have unfolded

Custody & Access · Civil Jurisdiction

A custody arrangement without court involvement

The situation

A parent sought advice after a separation, concerned about custody and access arrangements for a school-age child. The other parent was resistant to communication and had indicated they would contest any proposed arrangement.

What we did

After the initial consultation and document review, we drafted a proposed access arrangement and requested mediation through the Malaysian Mediation Centre. Over two mediation sessions, a detailed parenting plan was negotiated and agreed — covering weekdays, weekends, school holidays, and communication arrangements.

The outcome

A legally recognised custody and access agreement was concluded in approximately eleven weeks, without court proceedings. Both parties — and the child — avoided the stress and disruption of a contested court process. The arrangement has been in operation for over a year without revision.

Marital Matters · Syariah Jurisdiction

Clarity at an uncertain moment

The situation

A client was navigating a significant deterioration in their marriage and was uncertain whether to proceed with a formal separation. They had not spoken to any legal practitioner and were unsure whether their circumstances would be handled under civil or Syariah law.

What we did

The Family Position Consultation addressed the jurisdictional question directly, explained the relevant Syariah procedures, and outlined what the process would involve in practical terms — timeline, court appearances, documentation required, and maintenance considerations. A written summary was provided the following day.

The outcome

The client took two weeks to consider their options before returning to engage our custody and maintenance service. They described the written summary as the document that made it possible to think clearly about a situation that had previously felt overwhelming. The matter was later resolved through talak proceedings with minimal contention.

Ongoing Advisory · Blended Family

Steady counsel through changing circumstances

The situation

A client had children from two previous relationships and had remarried. Their family circumstances involved ongoing custody arrangements, a cross-border element, and intersecting estate and family planning considerations that changed periodically over time.

What we do

The Long-Term Counsel relationship provides an annual review of all active arrangements, year-round access to consultation as circumstances shift, document drafting when agreements need updating, and standing representation on the rare occasions when a matter escalates to a formal proceeding.

The result

Over two years, the arrangement has required one formal amendment to a custody order, one pre-nuptial review, and several informal consultations. The client has described the relationship as "the legal equivalent of a family doctor" — someone who knows the context and can be consulted without starting from the beginning each time.
